Single-player by design, not by omission
The question "is Dreadmoor multiplayer" comes up because the game looks like it should be. A boat, fishing, a big dangerous map — that is the shape of a co-op game.
It is not one. Steam's feature list for Dreadmoor includes Single-player, and no multiplayer, co-op, PvP or online co-op category appears anywhere on the store page or in the developer's announcements.
That is consistent with everything the studio has said about the design. Dream Dock's stated goal is vulnerability and isolation: a first-person camera that shows only what the pilot would see, no view under the water, no way to watch front and back at once, and a world where distance from safety is the primary danger. The tension diary is explicit that silence and solitude are tools, not a limitation.
Adding a second player would remove most of that. It is not a feature the game is missing; it is a feature the design is built against.
What the store actually confirms
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Single-player | Yes |
| Steam Cloud | Yes |
| Family Sharing | Yes |
| Save anytime | Yes |
| Custom volume controls | Yes |
| Multiplayer / co-op | No |
| PvP | No |
| Cross-play | Not applicable — PC only |
Two of those are quietly useful. Steam Cloud means your save follows your account, so playing on a desktop and a laptop does not mean two separate runs. Family Sharing means a household can share one purchase under Valve's rules, which matters at $19.99.
Save anytime is worth noting too, given the game's pacing. Dreadmoor is a slow game with discrete trips; being able to stop between them rather than at a checkpoint suits it.
Why "no co-op" is a real answer, not a dodge
Some single-player games are single-player because multiplayer was cut. Dreadmoor's systems argue the other way.
The fishing fight is a stamina contest between one person and one fish, conducted from a small deck. The economy is built on one hold, one boat and one debt. The horror is built on being alone in fog with a sound you cannot identify. Every one of those breaks with a second player on the boat.
The studio has been clear about what Early Access is for, and multiplayer is not on the list. The stated priorities are "balance, stability and polish", plus new areas, more fish, new fishing mechanics and further boat upgrades. If co-op were planned, that would be the natural place to say so.
That does not mean it will never happen. It means there is no evidence for it, and a page that promises "co-op coming" would be inventing.
What to play instead, if you wanted co-op
If the appeal was "fishing survival with a friend", the honest answer is that Dreadmoor is not that game. Its closest neighbour is Dredge, which is also single-player, and the broader co-op fishing space is filled by games with a different tone.
What Dreadmoor offers instead is a solo loop that is unusually physical: hand-refuelling, hand-cranking a radio, hand-fighting a fish, hand-installing a boat part. The beginner guide is the honest test of whether that appeals. If it does, the absence of other players is part of the appeal rather than a gap.
Platform and account questions
Because this comes up alongside the multiplayer question:
- Windows PC only. No macOS, Linux or console build. The release page covers the platform list.
- Steam only. No Epic, GOG or Microsoft Store listing has been announced.
- No account beyond Steam. The game does not require a publisher account or a separate login.
- Steam Deck: playable, not Verified. See the Steam Deck page.
If you are buying for a household with two PCs, Family Sharing means one copy can be played by one person at a time, not two simultaneously — that is how Valve's system works, and it is worth knowing before launch night.
What would change this page
Three announcements would require a rewrite: a co-op mode, a console version, or a save-sync feature beyond Steam Cloud. None has been made.
Dreadmoor enters Early Access on November 9, 2026, and the studio has said plans will evolve with feedback. If multiplayer is ever added, it will appear first in the Steam news feed, which is the only changelog the studio actually maintains.
Until then, the accurate answer to "is Dreadmoor multiplayer" is a single word, and the rest of this page is the evidence for it.
